Getting started

What do I need to use Unskipped?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later. To run workouts on your wrist you need a paired Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later; we recommend watchOS 26.

Can I use it without an Apple Watch?

Yes. You can create workouts, organize them in your library, follow a plan, schedule sessions and get reminders. Runs recorded in Health by other apps or devices show up in Progress. You only miss out on guidance on your wrist, with pace and heart rate alerts, and the step-by-step summary.

Does Unskipped support other sports?

For now it’s running only, outdoors and on the treadmill. Other sports may come in future versions.

Apple Watch

How do I send a workout to my Watch?

Open the session and tap Send to Apple Watch. A preview opens: confirm it and the session is scheduled in the Workout app on your Watch. Scheduled sessions appear at the top of the Workout app’s list.

The session doesn’t show up on my Watch. What should I do?
  1. Make sure your Watch is paired with your iPhone and turned on, with Bluetooth on.
  2. Open the Workout app on your Watch and scroll to the top of the list.
  3. If you declined access the first time you sent a workout, check the permissions in the Unskipped settings.
  4. Try sending the session again from your iPhone.
Which targets does the Watch follow?

Outdoors: pace (current or average), heart rate as a range or zone, power and cadence. On the treadmill: pace and heart rate, because the Watch doesn’t support power and cadence indoors. Each step can end after a time, after a distance or whenever you decide.

Are heart rate zones the ones on my Watch or in Unskipped?

A heart rate zone target sent to the Watch uses the zones set on the Watch. The zones in your Unskipped profile are used for estimates and summaries in the app.

Health and progress

My runs don’t show up in Unskipped.

Unskipped reads your runs from Health, so it needs permission. Check in the Health app › your profile › Apps › Unskipped, or in Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Unskipped, and turn on every item. Then reopen Unskipped: runs are read at launch.

How are race predictions calculated?

Unskipped applies Jack Daniels’ VDOT model to your races and to your outdoor runs of at least 3 km from the last 12 weeks, and keeps the best result. For the marathon you can compare it with Riegel’s formula, which is often more conservative when your mileage is low. Under each prediction you can see which run it was calculated from.

These are estimates: they depend on the course, the conditions and how specifically you’ve trained for the distance.

Why doesn’t a run count towards my personal bests?

Personal bests are searched for in your outdoor runs from the past year, using the distances recorded by the Watch. Treadmill runs are excluded, and stretches with impossible values caused by GPS errors are discarded.

Plans, shoes and files

Can I edit a generated plan?

Yes, every session stays editable. You can drag it to another day, change it in the editor or delete it. When you’re ready, tap Apply to calendar to create the sessions with their reminders.

How are shoes assigned to runs?

For each new run, Unskipped picks, in this order: the pair recommended for that workout, the pair set by your rules, then your default pair. You can always change it from the run’s details. You get an alert when a pair reaches 80% of its wear limit and again when it reaches the limit (700 km unless you change it).

How do I share a workout or a plan?

Use the Share button: you can send a .unskipped file, which opens directly in Unskipped for whoever receives it, or the workout as text. Relative paces, such as “threshold +2%”, adapt to the recipient’s own paces.

iCloud and backup

How do I turn on iCloud sync?

It stays off until you turn it on. Tap Restore from iCloud the first time you open the app, or turn it on at any time from Settings › Data. You need to be signed in to iCloud on your iPhone.

What syncs, and what doesn’t?

What syncs: workouts, folders, plans, scheduled sessions with their status (for example done or skipped, and whether they’re already scheduled on your Watch), your profile without the values read from Health, and your shoes, with a photo if you added one.

What doesn’t: data read from Health, run summaries, the distance on your shoes and race times. On another iPhone, Unskipped reads your runs from Health on that device and matches them to completed sessions; if it can’t find one, the session stays marked as done, without numbers.

I can’t see my data on my other iPhone.
  1. Make sure both iPhones are signed in to the same iCloud account.
  2. Make sure sync is on in Settings › Data on both.
  3. Check your internet connection and keep Unskipped open for a moment: the first sync can take a little while.
How do I delete my data from iCloud?

Turn off sync from Settings › Data and choose Delete from iCloud: all Unskipped data is erased from your iCloud, while the copy on your phone stays. If you delete the app without doing this, the copy in iCloud stays.

How do I move my data to a new iPhone?

If you turned on sync, tap Restore from iCloud the first time you open the app on the new iPhone. Otherwise, or if you don’t use iCloud, use a backup: on your old iPhone go to Settings › Data › Export Backup, then on the new one open the file with Restore from Backup. Restoring replaces everything in the app, after you confirm.

Runs, heart rate and statistics aren’t in the backup: Unskipped reads them again from Health on the new iPhone.

I use Unskipped on two iPhones, each with an Apple Watch.

With sync turned on, for now use Unskipped on just one iPhone paired with a Watch. Two iPhones, each with its own Watch, would keep re-sending sessions to each other.
